8th grade Angels vs. Salesian

Once again, the game was competitive with both teams taking turns taking the lead. Eventually, the game went into overtime and the Angels came up short, 37 to 34. Strong offensive performances by Bridget Ferrer, Reyna Vitug, Veronica San Felipe, and Cynthia Ramirez led the Angels' charge. Kimberly Morales and Jennifer Panganiban played excellent defense and came up with steals to spark the team. The quest is far from over...we will get there!!!

8th grade Angels vs. St. Thomas the Apostle

After a back and forth battle, we came up short by 1 point, losing 24 to 23. We had plenty of opportunities to win the game within the last 25 seconds of the game, but the ball would just not get in the hoop even though it was "halfway" in. Great effort by all!

8th grade Angels vs. Epiphany Eagles

The 8th grade girls competed against the Eagles from Epiphany last Friday night. With their suffocating -in-your-face pressure defense, the Angels caused the countless turnovers by the Eagles and bolted an 18-7 lead at halftime. The Angels were led by Claire Gerona's inside scoring along with Veronica San Felipe's toughness to come away victorious with a final score of 20-14. The Angels are now 2 and 1, and their "quest" continues this weekend with back to back games Friday and Saturday!

8th grade Angels vs. Waldorf

This game was the opening CYO league game in which strong emotions and striaght up "will" lifted the Angels to a double-overtime thriller victory: 25 to 24 against Waldorf. After squandering a 7 point lead with 4 minutes left to play in the game, the Angels came together and pulled it off! Claire Gerona played an outstanding game in which she scored clutch baskets especially tying the score in overtime with her pressure-packed freethrow. Kim Morales played tough defense and scored big shots to help the Angels. The biggest shot came from point guard, Veronica San Felipe, who injured her ankle during the game. She came off the bench to score the game-winnning basketball in sudden death overtime to will the Angels to victory in this "crazy" game...the beginning of our quest has begun...it's never how you start but how you FINISH!

8th grade Angels vs. Ben Franklin

The 8th grade girls were victorious against Ben Franklin with a score of 24 to 6. After "waking up" after the half-time break, the team's strong half court press defense contributed to easy fast break lay-ups and easy shots as the Angels completed a 3 win-4 loss season.

8th grade Angels vs. Ben Franklin (A)

This past Saturday, the 8th grade Angels played Ben Franklin's (A) team, and the Angels came out victorious with a score of 22 to 8 and evening their league record to 2 wins and 2 losses. Reyna Vitug and Veronica San Felipe each contributed 8 points a piece. In addition, these 2 girls combined on a few fast break points with Reyna finding and passing to Veronica streaking down the court for easy lay-ups. Our team defense really came together continually putting losts of suffocating ball pressure on the Falcons with our half court "Louisville" trap. Jen Panganiban and Cynthia Ramirez were thieves on the court as they stole passes that lead to scoring opportunities. Great all around effort!

8th grade Angels vs. DC Cardinals

The 8th grade Angels played their DC Park & Rec league opener this past Saturday against the DC Cardinals. The girls overcame countless turnovers and missed opportunities to come out victorious with a score of 14 to 12. The game was a defensive struggle, but the Angels were led by Reyna Vitug's 6 points, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots along with Theresa Mandapat's aggressive rebounding and overall toughness on court. Claire Gerona made the winig lay-up with 33 seconds remaining in the game. It's great to get their 1st win out of the way, but lots of hard work and perseverance to get better as a team lies ahead!! We'll take it!

8th grade Angels vs. Epiphany Eagles

This past Saturday, the Angels played the Epiphany Eagles and suffered their 1st loss of the season. The Eagles had better ball movement that resulted in easier shots. The Angels mounted a mini-comeback in the 2nd half with their pressing, attacking defense, but came up short. The girls did not quit and played hard until the final buzzer. Great defensive effort and relentless hustle by Anthonet Abad and a solid performance by Bridget Ferrer. All good; we'll be back on the winning track this Saturday.

7th grade Angels vs. St. James Vikings

Lady Angels soar from an 11 point deficit in the 4th quarter to beat Vikings 36-33! The 7th grade girls team pulled out an amazing comebakc win against St. James on Sunday at Serramonte Del Rey. Thn the fast paced exciting affair, the Angels went into the 4th quarter down 23-18. The Vikings scored the first six points of the final stanza putting the Angels in a deep 11 point hole. A three pointer by Karla Bugtong started the rally, and the Angels ferocious defense proceeded to shut the Vikings down, forcing several turnovers allowing the Angels to chip their way back into the game. Karla Bugtong dusted off her Superwoman cape and made four clutch freethrows down the stretch to help seal the victory. Jessica Pineda and Noelani Catillo also displayed they had ice water in their veins by converitng decisive free throws as the Angels were in the bonus near the end of the game. Despite being at a severe size advantage down low, Ruth Colom and CArla Collazos played splendid defense keeping the Vikings from scoring down the stretch. ALl in all it wasw and exciting victory for the Angels in front of a rucous pro-viking crown even though the game was played in a venue the Angels would consider their home court. Karla Bugtong paced the Angels with 15 points including 3 three pointers, Jessica Pineda also contributed 12 points in the victory. The Angels now set their focus on St. Anne's to keep their playoff hopes alive.

6th grade Angels vs. OLP & OLG

The sixth grade girls finishes the regular season on a high note, last week. On Thursday, the angels played Our Lady of Pillar for the second time in five days. Once again, it came down to the wire. Jazmine, Carelaine, and Chloe led the way and the angels were able to pull out a 16-14 victory. On Friday, the angels played Our Lady of Guadalupe. The hustle plays of Lauren, Nicole, and Analyn sparked the team and the defense proved to be the difference of the game. The angels won the game 16-5 and finished the regular season with a 6 and 2 record, winning their last four games. The Angels are playing well, but they know there is more work to be done so they cant relax.

6th grade Angels vs. T.R. Pollicita Trojans

The 6th grade girls defeated the T.R Pollicita Trojans, 10-3. It was nearly the mirrior image of the 3rd grade boys team that I coached earlier in the morning. The first half score, 1-1. Where do I start? We needed to make up for the lack of scoring and multiple turnovers in the forgettable first half. At halftime, I reminded the girls that our team colors were green and stop passing the ball to the blue team.
I think the halftime speech sparked the defense and woke up the offense in the second half. The intensity and defensive pressureresulted in one point by the Trojans and nine points by the Angels. Top scorer Chloe led the team with an exciting three pointer and four points, all in the fourth quarter. The team defense and rebounding allowed us to win this game. Awesome second half! Be ready for next practice, maybe where something green.

Coach Magalong

5th grade Angels vs. St. Thomas More

On Friday night, it was a game against two undefeated teams and the Angels were victorious again, 14-13. This was there 7th win in a row, but it wasn't easy. From the opening tip-off, the Broncos scored right away and led throughout till the last seconds of the game. The Angels were down by as much as 4 points in the 4th Quarter and if it wasn't for Liann, the team would have lost. Liann put the team on her shoulders by scoring 12points. With 18 seconds to go in the 4th qtr and the game tied at 13 all, Cassidy made the first shot of two from the free throw line to give the Angels their first lead, a 1point lead. The broncos rebounded the ball and had a chance to at least tie the game because they got fouled and were in the bonus. At this point, there were only ten seconds left in the game. Fortunately, their player missed the first shot and Pearla grabbed the rebound. She passed the ball to Liann who then dribbled around till the game ended. The rest of the team were not their usual selves, too many turnovers and missed layups but give the Broncos credit because they came to play and had the intensity. Once the Angels started playing man-to-man defense, the Broncos were limited to only 4points afterwards. This was the Angels' first true test playing against a team who were close to their level. The team knows that they have to play even better by limiting their turnovers, making their free throws, boxing out on the rebounds, giving better passes, and not make mental mistakes. An undefeated season will not mean as much if you don't win the championship.

Coach Mercado

5th grade Angels vs. Conerstone

On Wednesday night, the Angels played against Cornerstone and ended the league season undefeated with a perfect record of 8 wins and no losses! They outscored Cornerstone 20-8. The game was played at Cornerstone and their students who were supporting their classmates were very loud and spirited but they got quiet int the 4th quarter when the Angels started to pull away. Although the players from Cornerstone were fiesty and quick, they were still no match for the Angels' tenacious man-to-man defense. Leading all scorers was Pearla with 7 points. Also scoring were Liann with 5 points, Cassidy and Ashley with 4 points apiece. Awesome defense was provided by Sydney and Sky who had 3 steals. Also, Alexis had a couple of assits that led to easy points for the Angels. Even though the regular season ended, the girls know that tey still have to remain focused and stay deteremined so that they can achieve their ultimate goal, a Championship.

Coach Mercado

5th grade Angels vs. Good Shepherd

Make it 5 in a row for the Angels! On Saturday, the Angels played the Blazers of Good Shepherd and won by the score of 35-3. Although the Blazers scored first within the first minutes of the game, the Angels didn't let that affect them. Pearla who led all scorers with 9 points, calmly sank a free throw and an outside shot to take the lead. After that, it was full throttle for the Angels. The girls are learning how to play team basketball because they were passing the ball and dishing out assists. They've started to play with confidence and develop some swagger but they know that they still have to remain humble, focused and be fundamentally sound. The whole team played extremely well but they know that the level of competition that they are going against is not up to their level. There's nothing for them to do but to keep winning! Let's continue the streak to 6 in a row! Great job girls!

Coach Mercado

5th grade Angels vs. Epiphany Eagles

The Angels are on a roll! On Saturday morning, the Angels played against the Eagles at their home court and won rather easily 32-6. Although the Eagles scored first and had a 4-0 lead after the 1st quarter, the Angels woke up and started scoring after a lay-up and an outside shot to tie the game. The Angels' speed and quickness were no match for the Eagles', who had the height advantage. The team's goal for the season is to go undefeated and eventually win a championship. The girls are half-way there. Another goal for the girls is to continually get batter fundamentally and execute their plays with more precision. A player worth mentioning its Sky who had career best with 8 points. Leading all scorers was Liann with 10 points who could have easily had more but dished out 4 assists. Pearla also scored 8 points. Great job girls!

Coach Mercado

5th grade Angels vs. West Portal Wildcats

After a mad dash from their semi-final game from Westlake Gym, the team made its way to Serramonte Del Rey for their first CYO game. From the tip-off, the Angels were riled up from the previous game and the dash to get to the game. It showed because they were overshooting the basket and their passes were wild but midway through the 1st quarter, the Angels calmed down and found their composure. A steal and a breakaway lay-up by Liann eased the team's attitude for the first score of the game. The Angels continued their opponent for loose balls and rebounds. Pearla, Ashley, Sky, Cassidy, ALexis, and Sydney ALSO contributed to this victory. Way to start the CYO season!

Coach Antontio

5th grade Angels vs. OLM Bulldogs (A)

Well, the Angels faced their nemesis again and the result was the same, a loss to the Bulldogs in the semi-final game in the DC League. It was a hard fought game but the Angels couldn't pull out an upset. It seems like the team wasn't its usual self because they seemed a little timid and awed of the BIG game. Also, the Angels had another game immediately right afterwards for their first CYO game at Serramonte Del Rey and with that in mind of the girls, I think that contributed to their off game. Moreover, it's pretty unbelievable for a semi-final game that there was only one referee! Anyway, we'll get them next year!

Coach Antonio

5th grade Angels vs. Silverwolves

The 5th grade girls tenacious defense almost shuts out the Silverwolves by a score of 16-2. The Silverwolves did not score until the last minute of the game. There were a couple of steals from Pearla, Sky, and Sydney. The rest of the team deflected many of their passes and thus preventing entry passes to their much taller post players. Also, implementing a mix of 3-2, 2-3, and 1-3-1 defenses added to their confusion. On the offensive side, leading scorers with 7 points is Liann, then Pearla with 4 points, Alexis with 3 points, and Cassidy with 2 points. Again, everyone contributed to the victory. Way to go Lady Angels! Playoffs here we come!

Coach Antonio

5th grade Angels vs. St.Paul

Holding true to form, the Angels started off slow again but in the end they were victorious. During the first half of the game, the Angels were trailing but managed to tie it up by half-time. Then they got the go ahead basket by Ashley and were able to build a 4 point lead. With less than a minute left in the game, the other team was able to pull within 1 point but a defensive rebound by Cassidy sealed the win. Great game Angels!

Coach Antonio

5th grade Angels vs. St. Anne Stars

The Angels played against the best team in their division and lost. They played well but the Stars were just too much for the Angels, who were hanging around up until half-time. At the start of the second half, the Stars were clicking on all cylinders and started to pull away. A player worth mentioning was Cassidy Ricasa who led the team in Angels scoring. Hopefully, we'll meet them again in the playoffs and get a chance to even up the score.

Coach Antonio

5th grade Angels vs. OLPH Saints

It became a nail-biter in the end but the Angels prevailed and were victorious over the Saints by the score of 7-5. The Angels scored the first and lead throughout the whole game but the Saints mounted a comeback in the end. They were trailing by only 2 points and had the ball with 7 seconds to go in the game but the Angels' defense were too much for them to handle. They couldn't even get a shot attempt to try to tie the game. It was a good game but the girls know that the team still needs to stay focused and work on a couple of more things. Way to go 5th grade girls!

Coach Antonio

5th grade Angels vs. OLM Bulldogs

It was a slow start but a strong finish for the Angels! The 5th grade girls were victorious over the Bulldogs by the score of 15-8. It was a great team victory with almost everyone scoring and if they didn't score, they were hustling and playing great defense. The Angels were trailing by 3 points at halftime but half way through the third quarter, they finally took the lead on a 3 pointer by Liann, who led all scorers 7 points. Also scoring were Cassidy, Pearla, Alexis, and Sky. Great defense and hustle were provided by Sydney and Ashley. Way to go Angels!

Coach Antonio

4th grade Angels vs. St. Ignatius

The 4th grade girls Angels defeated St. Ignatius this weekend by the score of 13-6. Angels were down at halftime and didn't take the lead until late 3rd quarter. Great offensive performance from Jessica who scored 6 points. Rebounding was also huge and a great team effort. This win put our CYO season at 7-0 with one more game to go. This also locks the Angels as the #1 seed for the playoffs.

This past Saturday 4th grade Girls Holy Angels team played OLM Bulldogs B. It was a close game going into the second half the score was 2-2. THe bulldogs scored in the first minute of the third quarter and went up 2-4, but Maya Vitug came down and drained the free throw line jumper to tie it, and the Bulldogs never scored agian while the ANgels went on to win the game 10-4.
